What is a CEVO
PA Consolidated Statutes Title 75 § 3108 defines a Certified Escort Vehicle as “A vehicle that is operated to escort a super load on a highway of this Commonwealth.” This statute also establishes that the driver of a certified escort vehicle that is being operated to escort a super load must be certified and licensed by the department and wear attire that complies with 67 Pa. Code § 101.3(5) (relating to minimum attire). The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) allows super loads to utilize Certified Escort Vehicles (CEVs) in lieu of Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) escorts as established in the following Policy.

Pennsylvania CEVOs must have at least three years of verified experience escorting oversized loads, a valid driver’s license, and a vehicle equipped with mandatory equipment for safety and communication, before they can apply to become a PA CEVO. They also know the rules and laws specific to Pennsylvania for the movement of superloads across the Commonwealth.

Piloting
If you need to transport an oversize load, you need a reliable and experienced pilot (or escort) vehicle service. In other words, you need RLE. We provide professional and safe piloting services for any type of oversize load, including oil field equipment, heavy machinery, and modular homes and offices.

Our Fleet
Our fleet currently consists of 8 modern four-wheel drive vehicles, equipped with GPS, WatchGuard camera systems, hot sticks (telescoping wire lifting sticks), measuring sticks, and other load measuring devices, cones, flares, and many other items needed to successfully move oversize loads. RLE also provides all wire props.

Route Surveys and Preparation
If you are transporting oversize loads, you need to plan your route carefully to avoid delays, fines and accidents. RLE offers route surveys for oversize loads that avoid bridges, tunnels and other obstacles which may hinder the travel of your load. Our surveyors have years of experience in routing, coordinating and mapping your load for safe travel to its destination.
Route Preparation is mainly for rig moves, but we can prepare any route that we have run a survey on. RLE will post any wires that can be posted, place directional arrows at each turn to ensure no turns are missed, trim any heavy limbs that may cause issues, and address any potential problems on the route before the move takes place.

Variable Message Signs
We offer roadside variable message signs for traffic conditions, speed limits, warnings and other guidance.
We presently have 13 digital message board signs of different sizes and mounting option to fit any of your needs.
These signs have the capability to record traffic data and adjust their displayed messages depending on vehicle speeds and client requests. They are also equipped to record data traffic flow for analysis. One of our signs is vehicle mounted and meets the Pennsylvania state requirements for traffic control plans for moving superloads.
